Sun Peeking Over Fuji-San
Dimensions: 22″ high x 6″ diameter base, 4 1/2″ top diameter
Item No: DG023
This piece is titled Fuji-san because the thick slip work reminds me of the snow on top of Mt. Fuji. This vase was tumble stacked and fired on the kiln floor near the firebox. The orange and red colors are where the flame “flashed” the surface. The gray areas are called carbon trapping, which occurs when the fire is desperate for oxygen and it takes it from the clay body and the clay body replaces that oxygen with the smoke inside the kiln. The green drips are molten ash.
